(ca. 1526-1590) was a Flemish Renaissance landscape painter. Grimmer was born and died in Antwerp. According to Karel van Mander he first learned to paint landscapes from Matthys Cock and later from Christiaen Queburgh, both of Antwerp. He was a very skilled painter of houses, sky, and foreground views. He was a member of the Guild of St. Luke who was active as a rederijker and acted in many plays. According to the RKD his earliest dated work is from 1546 and his latest dated work was 1589. Most of his works are landscapes and he worked together with Gillis Mostaert. Henri Edmond Cross
1856-1910 French Henri Edmond Cross Locations French painter and printmaker. The only surviving child of Alcide Delacroix, a French adventurer and failed businessman, and the British-born Fanny Woollett, he was encouraged as a youth to develop his artistic talent by his father cousin, Dr Auguste Soins. He enrolled in 1878 at the Ecoles Academiques de Dessin et d Architecture in Lille, where he remained for three years under the guidance of Alphonse Colas (1818-87). He then moved to Paris and studied with Emile Dupont-Zipcy (1822-65), also from Douai, whom he listed as his teacher when exhibiting at Salons of the early 1880s. His few extant works from this period are Realist portraits and still-lifes, painted with a heavy touch and sombre palette (example in Douai, Mus. Mun.).
Ion Andreescu
n. 15 februarie 1850, Bucuresti . 22 octombrie 1882, Bucuresti He was born in Bucharest into a merchant family. In 1869 he entered Theodor Aman Fine Arts School. By 1872 he was an instructor of drawing and calligraphy at the Bishop School in Buzau. In 1873 he left the Bishop School for the Tudor Vladimirescu Communal Secondary School, also in Buzau. Then, in 1875 he left the Communal Secondary School for Buzau Craftsmanship School. Influenced by Nicolae Grigorescu, he left Romania for Paris to further his education. In Paris, he began painting at Barbizon. His work was exhibited with the works of better known painters such as Manet, Monet and Renoir. In 1881 he returned to Romania, ill with tuberculosis. His death followed shortly in 1882.
Charles Amedee Philippe Van Loo
French Painter, 1719-1795, was a French painter of allegorical scenes and portraits. He studied under his father, the painter Jean-Baptiste van Loo, at Turin and Rome, where in 1738 he won the Prix de Rome, then at Aix-en-Provence, before returning to Paris in 1745. He was invited to join the Academie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in 1747, and that year he married his cousin Marie-Marguerite Lebrun, daughter of the painter Michel Lebrun (died 1753). Among his brothers were the painters Francois van Loo (1708-1732) and Louis-Michel van Loo (1707-1771).
